Chicago Bears head coach Matt Eberflus gave fans a much-needed positive update on Wednesday.

According to Eberflus, Bears quarterback Justin Fields is set to return to practice on Wednesday.

Fields was labeled as “day to day” after suffering an injury to his non-throwing shoulder in Chicago’s loss to the Atlanta Falcons this past weekend.

Now, this doesn’t necessarily mean that Fields will play on Sunday against the New York Jets, but it would seem to indicate that he will.

Eberflus didn’t give too many details away earlier this week when discussing Fields’ injury. The feeling is that Eberflus didn’t want to give too much away because he wants the Jets to spend time preparing for backup quarterback Trevor Siemian.

It’s certainly possible that Fields’ return to practice — especially if he’s limited — is some gamesmanship from Eberflus. The Jets, at this point, have to prepare for Fields, even though it’s unclear if he’ll play on Sunday.

We likely won’t know until Sunday morning if Fields is going to play or not. And based on how Eberflus has handled this situation, I wouldn’t expect him to give much away before kickoff on Sunday.
