The Cincinnati Bengals did some roster churning on Thursday.
Running back Elijah Holyfield, son of boxing legend Evander Holyfield, was carted off the field on Wednesday during practice. Unfortunately, Holyfield has been placed on the reserve/injured list, effectively ending his season, and the Bengals signed running back Jacques Patrick as a result.
We have signed free agent HB Jacques Patrick and placed Elijah Holyfield on the Reserve/Injured list.— Cincinnati Bengals (@Bengals) July 28, 2022
Holyfield went undrafted in 2019 before he was signed by the Carolina Panthers. He would spend the next two seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles before being signed to the Bengals practice squad last October. Holyfield has only appeared in one game in his NFL career which came in 2020 with the Eagles and logged just five snaps on special teams, none on offense.
Patrick is no stranger to the Bengals. After going undrafted in 2019, he signed with the Tampa Bay Vipers during the 2020 XFL draft. When they suspended operations in April of that year, Patrick was signed to the Bengals practice squad. Patrick spent time with the San Francisco 49ers, Carolina Panthers, and Baltimore Ravens in 2021. He has yet to appear in an NFL game.
