The reigning AFC Champions will be back in action this Friday when they take on the Arizona Cardinals. There are a lot of reasons to tune in, but don’t expect the Cincinnati Bengals to take the field with their starters.

“You’re going to see a large group of the guys that have played significantly for us that will not play in the game,” revealed Zac Taylor during Wednesday’s press conference.

However, the Bengals’ head coach pointed out two specific players that will be getting plenty of action as they prepare to take on starting roles throughout the 2022 season:

Jackson Carman and Dax Hill.

Carman is shaping up to be the favorite to win the job at left guard as he continues to battle Cordell Volson, Hakeem Adeniji, and other young linemen on the team. At this point though, it feels like it’s his job to lose.

But the second-year player needs the reps and the Bengals will make sure he gets them as soon as their first preseason game of the year.

On the other side of the ball, Hill will have a big role in Lou Anarumo’s defense even if/when Jessie Bates returns from his current holdout. The rookie defensive back is a versatile weapon that can play as a nickel defender or as a third safety in “Big Nickel” (a three-safety look that the Bengals love).

This will be Cincinnati fans’ first look at the first-rounder’s insane range. Reports out of training camp indicate the Bengals’ defense looks fast and Hill is a big reason for that.

Although we’re not expecting any fancy stuff from the Bengals’ defense in a preseason game, hopefully, Hill is used in different packages for him to showcase why he was seen as one of the best hybrid defenders in April.
