The Dallas Cowboys are 1-1 and desperate for another win heading into Monday Night. With Cooper Rush at the wheel, the team could use another surprise win to give the team a chance once Dak Prescott comes back.
Rush’s perfect 2-0 record as a starter suggests they have a chance. But to beat the New York Giants they’ll have to pass several tough tests. Let’s dive into two of those that feature a Giants’ strength.
WR CeeDee Lamb vs CB Adoree Jackson
It’s tough to evaluate how Lamb has done through two weeks because the Cowboys’ offense hasn’t been working with a legit wide receiver that demands the opponent’s respect.
That should change on Monday Night as Michael Gallup is expected to make a comeback after tearing his ACL last season. But if Lamb is to shine during the primetime showdown, he’ll have to beat Adoree Jackson, who has been quietly killing it.
According to The Athletic’s Dan Duggan, Jackson has allowed one catch in the first two games of the season and only five catches in 25 targets in the previous seven games.
Not only has he put up big numbers but he’s done so while shadowing the opponent’s top receivers. In week 1, Jackson lined up against the Titans’ Robert Woods most of the time and in week 2 it was the Panthers’ Robby Anderson. On Monday, expect that to be the Cowboys’ CeeDee Lamb.
Another test for Cowboys interior OL
Since the NFL schedule was announced, one thing was clear for the Cowboys. They’d face a rough slate of defensive tackle groups for the first six weeks of the season. This time, they’ll be up against nose tackle Dexter Lawrence.
Leonard Williams isn’t expected to play on Monday Night, but Lawrence should be enough to keep the Cowboys busy up front. Left guard Matt Farniok could be in for a tough matchup after allowing six pressures per game so far.
Once more, Dallas will likely want to lean in the running game and Lawrence is the kind of guy who can wreck those plans. I’d expect Dallas to keep sending help Farniok’s way in the form of Tyler Biadasz, who’s been one of the biggest risers on the team this year.
