The Denver Broncos should highly consider adding one name to their list of candidates for their head coaching search. They have several already, but this guy could show them a little more of something Denver may be looking for.
This week alone the Broncos have four interviews and could have some more coming up.
It is never a bad idea to go ahead and interview another guy for the job. That doesn’t mean you have to hire him, but what bad comes from that? As a matter of fact, I think that helps you maybe later down the road in terms of building connections, even in the NFL.
The Broncos already have a ton of guys on their list, but I think former Broncos defensive coordinator Don “Wink” Martindale at least deserves an interview based on what we have seen this year and in years past.
The Giants defensive coordinator just won a playoff game for New York and shut down the best receiver in the league in Justin Jefferson. Not to mention they have had a pretty good defense all year considering the number of injuries they have dealt with in the secondary.
Martindale was a defensive coordinator with the Broncos in 2010 when they had the worst defense in the league. But, it’s been well over 10 years now, and Martindale has coached some really good defenses in Baltimore as a defensive coordinator and now in New York.
To be fair, that was his first time at the pro level as a coordinator, too.
The Broncos should at least give the guy an interview. I mean, other teams are like the Indianapolis Colts. It wouldn’t hurt to give it a shot.
Colts requested permission to interview Giants’ DC Wink Martindale for their HC job, per source. Martindale’s defense is fresh off Sunday’s wild-card win over Minnesota, when his unit shut down Vikings’ WR Justin Jefferson.— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) January 16, 2023
