The Denver Broncos are currently looking for their next head coach, and already have a few names on their list. But, as news surfaced on Wednesday, the Broncos added one more name that is a bit surprising.

So far, Jim Harbaugh and Ejiro Evero are the only two to have done the interview process with the Broncos. Evero, already being on the current staff, did it in person, while Harbaugh did a virtual interview.

Left on the Broncos’ list of coaches to interview are Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, 49ers defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans, Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris, and former Saints head coach Sean Payton.

Well, there is actually one more name to add to the list.

The Broncos are interested in former Colts and Lions head coach Jim Caldwell.

Caldwell is very respected around the league. In 2009 with the Colts, he finished 14-2, then 10-6, then 2-14 when Peyton Manning was injured. From there he went on to coach the Lions in 2014 where he started his tenure there 11-5, then 7-9, 9-7, and 9-7 in 2017 where he was let go.

The last time Caldwell did any type of coaching was in 2019 as the assistant head coach and quarterbacks coach in Miami for the Dolphins.

I wouldn’t say this is surprising because he is a bad coach. That just isn’t the case. This news was surprising because, well, this is news we haven’t heard of until it surfaced. All of the other guys we heard about well before hearing from the Broncos that they were interested.

I guess it’s surprising because no one thought about him being the next head coach in Denver.

Caldwell has an offensive background, which is just what the Broncos need help with. Hopefully, he would be able to fix those issues if he were to get hired.
