The Denver Broncos have made some headlines throughout training camp thus far. There are some big storylines out there, but, in my opinion, none bigger than the defense.

The Broncos have had some great defenses in the past. 2015 is one of the better ones that comes to mind in the No-Fly Zone.

Yes, the Broncos have always been known for their ferocious defense. Yes, while the offense has struggled over the last few years, the defense was still there. However, something is happening at camp. Something that probably should not happen, at least as much as it has been.

Broncos defense has dominated training camp so far

According to Benjamin Allbright, who covers the Broncos for local radio, the defense has won every day at camp.

Now, this can mean a few things.

First, this can mean the offense hasn’t been playing well, which in return would make the defense look great. But as Allbright notes, that isn’t what’s happening.

Now, with a guy like Russell Wilson and the weapons that are surrounding him, I, myself, highly doubt that is the case. Wilson has Courtland Sutton, Jerry Jeudy, KJ Hamler, Javonte Williams, and Melvin Gordon to get the ball to. On top of that, the offensive line is very underrated, with Dalton Risner, and Garrett Bolles leading the way, so we know that Wilson’s protection isn’t part of the issue, either.

I think this means the defense has progressed more than everyone thought it would. I think this means the defense is actually really good. I mean, think about it. The defense is giving Russell Wilson and company a hard time, all day, every day of practice.

It’s important to remember that yes, the defense usually has a head start during camp. And it’s logical to assume that head start is even greater when the offense is breaking in a new scheme, quarterback, and head coach. Nevertheless, no one should be take away what the defense has accomplished thus far.

The narrative coming into the season for the Broncos was that the defense would have trouble during the season while the offense would get all the shine, and so far, that is just not the case. But hey, this is a good thing. We want the defense to make the offense better, and vice versa.

This camp has been great so far, minus a few injuries of course. But, the team is getting better, and it’s starting to look like this team could make it back to the playoffs.
