The Denver Broncos have a chance at winning a Super Bowl, something that not everyone in the NFL has. With Russell Wilson at quarterback, the weapons stacked around him, and, of course, their insane defense, there aren’t many things holding them back this year.

On Monday night they will kick off their season against the Seattle Seahawks, a team that likely won’t be great this year, but could still catch some people by surprise.

With that being said, the team needs to be on their toes, especially the defense.

Here are three Broncos defenders to watch for on Monday night.

Dre’Mont Jones

Jones has been the talk of the town this offseason, as he has looked tremendous in training camp. He is looking like he could be the player that anchors an unstoppable pass rush and an even better run defense.

According to Pro Football Focus, of all the interior defensive linemen from the 2019 draft, Jones has the most career sacks with 15.5. That includes Jeffery Simmons and Quinnen Williams.

Now, factor in the help he is going to have this year on the offensive line. Then, factor in just how poor the offensive line is for the Seattle Seahawks, as it may be one of the worst in the league. It’s a problem they have harped on fixing, but Monday night, we will see if any improvements have been made.

D.J. Jones

While he only has seven career sacks in five seasons, Jones is much more valuable than he looks on paper, and could even be the anchor to the defensive line group this season.

Jones is more of a run-stopper than a pass rusher, and he knows that as well. In fact, he has said himself that he is one of the best run-stoppers in the game, and he’s right.

As far as doing that for the Broncos, he could do just the against Seattle, who will love to run the ball, like usual. Penny and Walker are two great running backs for Seattle, but look for Jones to shut down gaps with his size and agility. As we said before, the Seahawks offensive line isn’t great, and that goes for run blocking as well.

Jonas Griffith

He missed nearly all of the preseason with a dislocated elbow, but is expected to play on Monday night against the Seahawks. Griffith will be another key piece in helping stop the run game for the Broncos.

Griffith is an extremely good inside linebacker, and one of the more underrated ones in the league. On Monday night, the rest of the league could see that. His on-ball skills are great, and the matchup is in his favor. So, let’s hope the elbow is okay, and he remains healthy.

The Seahawks have no idea what they are in for. Russ is going to get cooking, and the defense is going to shut stuff down. It’s going to be very fun to watch.
