While they did win on Sunday Night Football against the San Francisco 49ers, people are still bashing the Denver Broncos. I mean, I get some of it. Yes, they are 2-1, but the wins haven’t been the prettiest. However, they have one of, if not the best defenses in football.

The defense won the game itself, yeah, but it was still a good thing to see that they can dominate a game. After the first scoring drive by the 49ers, the Broncos completely shut down their offense.

Even with the things that have gone right for the Broncos, people are still doubting and hating on Denver. After the win, there were still a ton of national media outlets that were calling out Nathaniel Hackett and the Broncos.

However, there is one national media outlet that showed some love to the Broncos this week. Well, they showed love to one player, rather.

Mike Purcell lands on Pro Football Focus’ “Team of the Week”

Every week, PFF comes up with their Team of the Week, which, as you may have guessed it, is a team with all of the players that they believed played the best at their position.

The Broncos had one player make the PFF ‘team of the week’ in Mike Purcell.

Purcell isn’t a name that a ton of people know. Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised, or upset, if a lot of Broncos fans don’t know who he is. That’s not a shot at any fans, he just isn’t a big-name player.

Purcell did have himself quite the game on Sunday Night Football, though. And, to make things even better, he did it against the team that drafted him in the San Francisco 49ers.

Purcell ended with one quarterback pressure, four tackles, and four stops. According to PFF, he also graded out at an 88.6 overall, and an 87.6 run defense grade.

Purcell showed up when the Broncos needed him most, and did that in 29 total defensive snaps, meaning he only played 52% of the defensive snaps. When you look at the product he was putting out with the small volume he was getting, you can’t help but agree on the pick for ‘team of the week’ by PFF.

With the way this defense is playing, I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if there were some more familiar names on it next week after the Las Vegas Raiders game.
