The Denver Broncos need a head coach.

There are plenty of candidates. There are some like current defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero or 49ers DC DeMeco Ryans that haven’t held a HC job in the NFL before.

For the most part, the other options are former head coaches for other teams around the league.

Right now, one thing is clear regarding the Broncos’ hunt for a new head coach.

The Broncos seem to be most interested in a coach with NFL head coaching experience.

Four of the top five coaches with the best odds to land the job have been head coaches in the league before.

Sean Payton, Jim Harbaugh, Dan Quinn, Frank Reich are some of the coaches in the group. The other is Darrell Bevell, a long-time NFL coordinator who is highly respected around the NFL.

This shouldn’t really surprise Broncos fans. They just made a first-time head coach hire in Nathaniel Hackett, and that didn’t work out whatsoever.

It would be especially risky for their front office to give another go at a coach who doesn’t have experience at the top at the highest level of football.

That being said, the top candidates without head coaching experience this off-season are enticing.

Evero and Ryans will get looks from multiple teams, and at least one of them will probably land a job. They deserve it as both are DCs and leaders for top defenses in the NFL.

Regardless, the Broncos seem zeroed in on a veteran.

Their front office won’t be afraid to spend up big-time for their new HC, either.

A proven winner like Harbaugh or Payton could be especially intriguing for their ownership. They will want to make a splash, and multiple names near the top of the list for betting odds would definitely do that.

This process could get really interesting very soon for the Broncos and their fans.
