Cincinnati Reds outfielder Jesse Winker has become a bit of a villain in New York over the years.

It all started in 2019 when Winker waved goodbye to Mets fans after catching a foul ball for the final out of a Reds victory.

Because of that wave, Mets fans boo Winker heavily every time he comes up to bat when the two teams are playing in New York. Mets fans also like to heckle Winker while he’s patrolling the outfield.

On Saturday, during a game at Citi Field, a Mets fan held up a vulgar sign directed at Winker that said “Jesse Winker you’re a straight up B****”.

Winker did not have the response you’d probably expect. Instead of getting mad, or going back and forth with the fan, Winker signed a ball and tossed it to the fan. The ball had a message that read “Loved the sign. I’m collecting them this year. Thanks for coming out to the game. Glad fans are back.”

Here’s video of the exchange:

That’s one of the coolest exchanges I’ve ever seen between a fan and a player. Kudos to Jesse Winker.
