Chicago Bears star tight end Cole Kmet might regret his comments about the Green Bay Packers this week.

Kmet didn’t say anything out of the way about Green Bay, but he might have asked for more than he bargained for on Tuesday.

The former Notre Dame standout said he hopes Aaron Rodgers plays this weekend.

Rodgers is dealing with a rib injury that he suffered during the Packers’ loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday night.

The future Hall of Famer, however, is expected to play against Chicago.

And Kmet is eager for the matchup.

“He’s the staple of their franchise and to get an opportunity to go beat him, it would always be a good feeling,” said Kmet. “So, yeah, I would like to see Aaron out there for sure.”

Rodgers looked like his old self at times against the Eagles before the rib injury. That’s not a total surprise, as Rodgers’ ineffectiveness over the last month has been mostly due to the broken thumb he’s been dealing with since week five.

By the way, it’s easy for Kmet to make this kind of comment when he doesn’t have to go on the field and back it up — that’ll be up to the Bears’ defense, which will be without one of its best players against Green Bay (safety Eddie Jackson was placed on IR on Tuesday).

I imagine Kmet’s teammates won’t like him poking the Bear (pun intended? maybe…).
