Pro Football Focus believes the Green Bay Packers have one of the best defensive play-callers in the NFL.

PFF recently ranked the top six defensive play-callers in the NFL and they have Packers defensive coordinator Joe Barry at No. 6 on their list.

From PFF:

People are really high on the 2022 Packers’ defense, and for good reason, but much of that is due to how well the unit stayed together in 2021 after injuries to Za’Darius Smith, Jaire Alexander and others left their streak of 13-win seasons in peril. However, the emergence of journeymen Rasul Douglas and De’Vondre Campbell revived their careers, and after an impressive haul in the draft, they return as role players in 2022.

Barry was hired by Green Bay ahead of the 2021 season after spending the previous four seasons as the Los Angeles Rams linebackers coach.

Packers head coach Matt LaFleur and Barry coached together in 2017 with the Rams (LaFleur was then the offensive coordinator for Los Angeles).

Green Bay is expected to have an elite defense in 2022. If the Packers’ offense can continue to operate at a high level without star wide receiver Davante Adams, then they should be the favorites to win the NFC.
