The Green Bay Packers drafted North Dakota State wide receiver Christian Watson in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft with the hope that he’ll be a suitable replacement for Davante Adams (who was traded to the Las Vegas Raiders earlier this offseason).

Watson has a size/speed combination that’s extremely rare. The Tampa, FL native is 6-foot-4 and runs a 4.36 in the 40-yard dash. That’s impressive even by NFL standards.

Sports Illustrated thinks Watson will be able to use those physical attributes to his advantage in 2022 and become a consistent big-play threat for the Packers.

Here’s SI’s “bold prediction” for Watson’s rookie season:

Christian Watson has at least five touchdown catches of 20 or more air yards
Watson perfectly fits Green Bay’s athletic profile. While we don’t know exactly how the second-round pick out of North Dakota State will fit into Aaron Rodgers’s queue of favorites, we do know that the Packers’ offense will design some explosive plays for him down the field.

I think almost any Packers fan would sign up for that prediction. If Watson catches at least five touchdown passes of 20 yards or more, it likely means he’s had a season close to what Ja’Marr Chase had for the Cincinnati Bengals last season.

Chase, who set a Bengals franchise record with 1,455 receiving yards, caught 13 touchdowns as a rookie in 2021. Eight of those touchdown receptions went for more than 20 yards.

Watson will be playing with one of the best quarterbacks in NFL history in Aaron Rodgers. So as long as he stays healthy, I think this is a realistic prediction from Sports Illustrated.
