Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Willie Gay has a lofty personal goal in 2022.

And if he achieves it, it will likely mean great things for the Chiefs this season.

Gay, who was drafted by Kansas City in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft, told reporters on Wednesday that one of his goals is to lead all linebackers in interceptions this season.

This would be quite the accomplishment for Gay, who only has two career interceptions in 28 games. He also had three interceptions in 28 career games at Mississippi State.

Last season, the linebackers with the most interceptions were Shaquille Leonard (previously known as Darius) and Logan Wilson with four each.

Gay has a little work to do if he wants to achieve his goal.

One interesting thing to note: Gay was tied for second on the Chiefs in interceptions last year with two. Tyrann Mathieu, who is now with the New Orleans Saints, led the team with three interceptions.

The Chiefs did a good job last season of creating turnovers — they finished fifth in the league in total takeaways. But if Gay can step up and increase his interception total in 2022, it’ll certainly help Kansas City achieve its goal of getting back to the Super Bowl.
