When you combine the regular and postseason, the Titans have won three of the last four matchups between the two. However, the Chiefs won the most important one.
In 2017 the Titans traveled to Arrowhead and won the wildcard game 22-21, eliminating the Chiefs from the playoffs. In 2019, Tennessee beat the Chiefs in the regular season on a blocked field goal, but the Chiefs got them back in the AFC Championship game.
And of course, last season, the Titans demolished Kansas City in the regular season. This game won’t be like the last.
“Yeah, you got to be ready to play,” Mahomes said on Wednesday. “Last year, we weren’t ready and they beat our ass.”
The Chiefs were in a dark place at that time, as some of you may remember. They were getting killed by the Bills and Titans, just to name a few. Tennessee beat Kansas City 27-3 that game.
“So we got to make sure that we are ready to go. It’s going to be a physical matchup, and we are going to have to go out there and play our best football. This is a team that is a lot better than I think the people in the media think. They don’t really talk about them. But we know it’s a great team coming to town and we have to play our best football.”
These are two very good teams. However, the Titans aren’t considered one of the best in the league like the Chiefs are. But, that doesn’t mean they can’t beat Kansas City.
The Titans have one of the best running games in the league, with probably the best running back in the league, who actually hasn’t done too much damage against the Chiefs in the past.
As Mahomes said, if they aren’t ready, they could get their ‘ass beat’ again, very easily.
