There is no doubt that the Chiefs have been the top offense the last few seasons. Of course, when you have guys like Patrick Mahomes, Tyreek Hill, and Travis Kelce that feat is easier. However, Mecole Hardman is another explosive player who can have a breakout game in the AFC Championship.
Both Kelce and Hill had historic seasons in 2020. For Kelce, he broke the record for most receiving yards in a season by a tight end. That’s is an accomplishment that gets overlooked because of how great Travis Kelce is.
Tyreek Hill tied the Chiefs franchise record for the most touchdowns in a season. Hill joined Dwayne Bowe in that list with 15 receiving touchdowns this season.
Mecole Hardman is somewhat of a hidden gem on this Chiefs team. In just his second season, number 17 is making plays nearly every game.
While he only had 560 receiving yards this season, he could easily have 1000 as the first option on another team. His speed and agility is something of the likes of his teammate Tyreek Hill.
Hardman was also a huge factor on special teams this season. Of course, he was selected to the pro-bowl as a returner last season. His 104-yard kick return as a touchdown last season was the biggest of the year.
While Hardman did not return a kick for a touchdown this season, he did return a punt for one against the Dolphins. It is safe to say that Mecole Hardman is a dynamic player who can have a breakout game in the AFC Championship, and here is why.
How Hardman Can Have a Big Championship Game
Mecole Hardman can have a big breakout game in the championship this weekend for a couple of reasons. Well, to start, he is insanely fast. We all know now that speed is a must-have on offense.
However, the Chiefs have a few guys who are very quick. One of them being Tyreek Hill, who had a fantastic game last week. Hill was the fourth highest-graded receiver of the week by Pro Football Focus.
He is a serious threat at any moment, and history shows that’s true. Hill has the most 20 plus yard touchdowns since 2018 with 21. He also has the most since week nine with four.
Travis Kelce was the Chief’s highest-rated offensive player this past weekend with an 82.9. Last week was his fifth consecutive game with a touchdown and ninth straight game with at least an 80 grade.
With how these two have been performing, they will surely get the bulk of intricate schemes thrown at them. Both Hill and Kelce will get the Bill’s two best defensive backs, leaving Hardman more opportunities.
Obviously, there is no stopping Hill and Kelce. However, when the Browns zoned in on the two last week, Hardman made terrific plays. If he is scheming and the game script goes his way, Mecole Hardman will have a breakout game.
