The national media seems to be a bit down on the Kansas City Chiefs entering the 2022 season, mostly due to the trade that sent star wide receiver Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins.

Patrick Mahomes, however, is still viewed as the best quarterback in the NFL — at least according to Pro Football Network.

PFN ranked all 32 starting quarterbacks this week and they have Mahomes at No. 1 (as he should be).

From Pro Football Network:

For a season that saw “What is wrong with Patrick Mahomes?” as the title to more than one article before November, he sure didn’t have a bad season in totality. He ranked third in the EPA/CPOE composite. He was also fourth in DVOA and fifth in QBR. Statistically, only a slight bump in his interception rate was a blip on the radar.

Then, we get to the physical talent that is Mahomes. The term “sneaky athletic” is a trope often associated with quarterbacks possessing less melanin, but Mahomes’ photograph should be beside the phrase in Webster’s dictionary. He’s a difficult target to nail down once on the move. He’s slippery on his way to the edge, and he’s faster than his 4.8 40-yard dash indicates.

Mahomes’ “down season” last year saw him throw for over 4,800 yards and 38 touchdowns. Most NFL quarterbacks can only dream of putting up those types of numbers.

The former Texas Tech standout is still the class of the NFL — without or without Tyreek Hill. It’s nice to see that Pro Football Network didn’t try to get cute and put another quarterback above Mahomes, though I’m not sure who they would’ve seriously considered (they have Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen at No. 2).

Mahomes, of course, doesn’t care about where he falls in these rankings. All he cares about is winning another Super Bowl ring. This upcoming season, the Chiefs will once again be one of the favorites to reach the final NFL game of the season, thanks mostly to the presence of Mahomes.
