In a recent report according to ESPN’s Adam Shefter, the Seattle Seahawks have agreed to trade Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos. Of course, as this is being written, the jury is still out on whether that was a good trade or not for both teams, as all the details are still a bit blurry.
But one thing is for certain: the Chiefs are hoping the Broncos got the worse part of this deal.
With this trade happening, the AFC West is even more competitive than it already was. Many people, media and fans alike, have said the West was one of the hardest conferences in football, with the Broncos being the worst team out of that bunch.
The addition of Russell Wilson immediately makes the Broncos a threat to Kansas City. A team that was on the outside of the playoffs looking in last season can now instantly become a Super Bowl threat due to Wilson’s presence. This will only force the Chiefs to play a different way in the future.
The Chiefs can’t afford to sleep on the Broncos anymore
It seems as if every year the Broncos play the Chiefs well in at least one of the two games. While Chiefs fans hate the Broncos, you almost have to respect what they have done over the last 25 years. They, like Kansas City, are one of the more respected franchises in football.
The Chiefs now have to take the Broncos seriously, because it seems like they haven’t at times in the past. If we can all be honest for a moment, when the two teams play each other, it always feels like Kansas City goes into the game thinking it will be a given win.
While that may or may not be the truth, the Broncos will be something to pay attention to now. With Wilson at the helm, all of their young pieces just got even better.
They have one of the best young receiving cores in the league with Courtland Sutton, Jerry Jeudy, and Tim Patrick. Let’s also not forget about the rookie running back in Javonte Williams, who will likely be a monster.
They also have some great pieces on defense. They also have two third-round picks remaining after the trade. They could easily use those to move back into the second round or use them in another advantageous way.
So, the overall point is that the Chiefs need to get even more serious during the regular season. They have a tendency to coast in some of the games against their rivals. Let’s wait and see if they continue to do that.
