The Las Vegas Raiders were able to get their first win over one of their biggest rivals on Sunday, as they beat the Denver Broncos pretty handily.

The Broncos have been struggling this year, very similar to the Raiders, only they have won two games. Now, the Raiders have won their first and are 1-3.

This win means a lot, for a couple of different reasons. Of course, there is the rival factor, but it also helps in the division standings at the end of the year when it comes down to the division record and tie-breakers.

Then, there is the fact that it was the first win of the year. Now, the team can build off of this and continue to win games now that they got that first one out of the way.

This win also gained some respect from the media. While the Raiders still have a long way to go, it’s definitely a start.

Raiders move up in power rankings

The Athletic does its weekly power rankings every Tuesday, and today the Raiders were able to move up a bit after their big win over the Broncos.

According to Bo Wulf of The Athletic, the Raiders are the 23rd best team, after being the 29th last week. Here are his thoughts.

“The Raiders have an uphill battle ahead of them, but the season would have been all but over had they lost to the Broncos. Now they’ve got a fighting chance, with an offense that ranks 10th in EPA per drive, a resurgent Josh Jacobs leading the running game, and finally some traction in getting the ball to Davante Adams. They even finally found someone else to sack the quarterback besides Maxx Crosby, although it happened on a cornerback blitz (thank you, Nate Hobbs). The odds are stacked against them, but that’s what Vegas is for.”

Honestly, I’ll take this ranking. It could be much worse, and they could be the 31st team since they just got their first win, and the Houston Texans are the only other team who has yet to get one.

It’s an improvement, and at this rate, that’s all you can really ask for, especially when you consider where this team started.

Personally, I don’t think the Raiders will beat Kansas City on Monday Night Football. However, if they play very well and make it a close game, they could move up even more just because the strength of their schedule has been so tough to start the season.

Raiders fans, take this in and be happy the team is getting a bit more respect. because, after watching the Chiefs beat the Buccaneers in Week 4, the raiders could easily go back to 29.
