The Tennessee Titans have their starting quarterback for the 2022 season. That’s Ryan Tannehill. That being said, he won’t get the start tonight in the team’s first preseason game. Instead, rookie QB Malik Willis will get the start against the Baltimore Ravens.

Throughout the first 10 days of training camp practice, Willis routinely was taking third team snaps behind Logan Woodside, who’s backed up Tannehill since 2020. There have even been team periods where Tannehill and Woodside have gotten two series of reps apiece, compared to Willis’ one series of reps.

It will be a good litmus test for where Willis is at early on in his development. Don’t expect too many unique play calls, though. The Titans will want to keep those in their back pocket for meaningful games. The Ravens won’t take it easy on the young quarterback, though.

Willis has had bumps in the road so far in Titans training camp, but he has also shown exciting flashes. That was always the projection for the former Liberty QB. His physical traits are super impressive, but the learning curve is sharp entering the NFL. Many scouts considered him a very “raw” QB prospect with great athletic upside.

Throws like this one in practice are what makes Willis so intriguing for the Titans as a passer, too.

Don’t be surprised if he has a turnover or two, but also don’t be shocked if he has a 50-yard touchdown throw or scramble. The variables are endless with the young QB in his first game action in the NFL.

Simply, enjoy the first preseason game for the Titans.
