The Tennessee Vols didn’t waste any time hiring an assistant coach to replace Terry Fair.
Fair was let go on Friday afternoon. A short time later, 247Sports reported that Oakland Raiders defensive backs coach Derrick Ansley was hired by Jeremy Pruitt.
Ansley, who coached cornerbacks at Tennessee in 2012, worked with Pruitt at Alabama on two different occasions.
“Control your effort, control your technique, control your finish.”

247Sports also reported that Ansley could be in line for a co-defensive coordinator title (the assumption is that Ansley will coach defensive backs). Currently, outside linebackers coach Chris Rumph serves as Tennessee’s co-defensive coordinator (with Kevin Sherrer as the primary defensive coordinator).
It’s unclear how the roles of the staff moving forward will be defined, but it’s certainly possible that more staff shuffling takes place.
As for landing Ansley, that’s a huge move by Pruitt. Ansley was recently considered as a potential replacement for Mel Tucker as Georgia’s defensive coordinator.
Ansley will provide the Vols with quality coaching as well as solid recruiting.
