If you keep up with Tennessee Vols recruiting, you know that tight ends coach Brian Niedermeyer is a major reason UT has landed some elite talent lately.

Niedermeyer was named the 247Sports recruiter of the year earlier this year, after helping sign players like Henry To’oto’o, Darnell Wright, Quavaris Crouch and Tyus Fields, just to name a few (all of those players, except Wright who was a five-star, were four-star recruits).

So what’s the secret to Niedermeyer’s recruiting success?

According to Vols head coach Jeremy Pruitt, it’s because he’s not married and he doesn’t have anything else to do.

In all seriousness, the main reason for Niedermeyer’s success is his genuine ability to connect with recruits and their families. To’oto’o’s father told 247Sports in February that Niedermeyer is “very warming” and “the kids are drawn to him”.

By the way, I think it’s interesting that Pruitt was quick to point out that Niedermeyer is also a solid on-the-field coach. That’s important, because the Vols are certainly going to need more production from their tight ends in 2019.
