The Tennessee Vols made significant upgrades to their offensive line by signing two five-star tackles during the 2019 recruiting cycle.

But anyone who saw Tennessee play in 2018 knows the Vols still have a long way to go before offensive line play becomes a strength.

That’s why I think Jeremy Pruitt and his staff should target one of the latest names to enter the NCAA transfer portal.

On Monday, former five-star offensive lineman Calvin Ashley, who signed with Auburn in 2017, announced his intentions to enter the transfer portal.

Ashley, who was rated as the No. 26 overall player in the 2017 class, was a redshirt freshman in 2018 for the Tigers.

The Orlando native missed Auburn’s game against the Vols last season due to a “medical issue”.

While Ashley’s time so far at Auburn hasn’t necessarily went like folks expected, he’s still an extremely talented player that Tennessee could certainly use. The Vols undoubtedly need more depth along their offensive line.

Ashley would likely have to sit out the 2019 season, but Pruitt and his staff have to plan for 2020 and beyond as well. Ashley, along with second year versions of Darnell Wright and Wanya Morris would give the Vols a lot of talent up front in 2020.
