A former Tennessee Vols standout was released by the New Orleans Saints this week.

Former Vols defensive back Bryce Thompson was waived by the Saints with an injury designation (he was carted off the field with a lower leg injury earlier this month during practice).

Thompson was signed by the Saints after going undrafted in the 2021 NFL Draft.

The South Carolina native played in just two games as a rookie last season.

While Thompson didn’t play a big role for New Orleans last season, he did have a nice interception during preseason action ahead of the 2021 season.

Thompson played at Tennessee from 2018 to 2020. He skipped his senior season to enter the 2021 NFL Draft.

During his time on Rocky Top, Thompson totaled 102 tackles, 19 passes defended, and eight interceptions.

Thompson’s best game as a Vol came in 2019 when he had three interceptions in a 30-7 win against UAB.
