Former New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton has been one of the stars of the off-season so far.
The playoffs are still going on, but an underlying storyline is where Payton will land. Teams are interested in bringing him back to the sideline, and the former offensive guru for the Saints wants to come back.
It won’t be for New Orleans, but they will get compensation for him. It’s expected to be at least one first round pick from whoever they trade Payton to in the coming weeks.
It feels like a matter of when rather than if a deal will happen involving Payton and the Saints.
The Denver Broncos emerged as a front runner for the former HC in New Orleans over the past week. That being said, the Arizona Cardinals, Carolina Panthers, and Houston Texans are all possibilities as well.

The situation is very fluid – of course.
It does not seem like a decision on Payton will be made until the end of this week at the very earliest. There’s a strong possibility that discussions, interviews, and negotiations push into the next couple of weeks, though.
The Saints’ off-season feels like it doesn’t fully start until this move is made.
