One of the New Orleans Saints‘ biggest offseason additions has finally made it to camp.
The Saints signed safety Tyrann Mathieu to a three-year deal earlier this offseason, bringing the Honey Badger back to his hometown of New Orleans.
Mathieu wasn’t at training camp last week, but he reported this week. His absence was reportedly due to an undisclosed family matter.
On Thursday, Mathieu met with reporters and he gave a vague reason for his late arrival to training camp.
The former LSU star said at some point he will go into more detail about his absence.
Tyrann Mathieu said at some point he’ll be more transparent about why he missed practice but for now he says he’s in a good place, healthy, and really appreciative of the team’s support. He said he’s not a guy who misses practice so ramping back up is an adjustment— Katherine Terrell (@Kat_Terrell) August 4, 2022
I’ll be honest, I didn’t think much about Mathieu’s absence from camp until that comment. He’s a veteran and various reports said he had a family issue. Stuff happens. He’s earned the right to take care of things before heading to training camp.
The comment about being more transparent, however, now has me intrigued — even though it’s ultimately no one’s business. But like any normal human, I’m curious to know what was up with the Honey Badger.
Perhaps we’ll find out in the not-so-distant future. The most important thing, for now, is that Mathieu is in camp and he’s ready to ramp up and get going.
