The biggest storyline of the Philadelphia Eagles-New York Jets preseason game from Friday evening was the injury to Jets QB Zach Wilson. The Eagles could have had a quarterback injury of their own due to a late hit on Jalen Hurts.

The hit was unnecessary, especially in the preseason. Hurts was multiple steps out of bounds, and the hit was high. You can certainly understand why Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni was not happy with the Jets afterwards. He was yelling at the opposing sideline for a bit after Hurts took the hit.

He called out Jets HC Robert Saleh specifically as well.Β

Eagles fans will probably like to see their coach with this passion. He was fired up because he wants his player to be protected. The Eagles cannot afford an injury to Hurts. Player demeanor starts at the top, so it is possible that he felt that Saleh was partially to blame.

At the end of the day, the game doesn’t count. It is for practice and reps for guys trying to prove that they’re worthy of a roster spot. Hits like that won’t get you a place on the depth chart. There is just no place for it.
