Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Mitch Trubisky is living in the Steel City these days, but he might feel like he’s back in Chicago after the first two weeks of the season.

The Steelers fell to 1-1 this week via their 17-14 loss on Sunday to the New England Patriots.

After the game, Trubisky expressed frustration with some of Pittsburgh’s play calls. Specifically, Trubisky felt like the Steelers should’ve used the middle of the field more.

“Call concepts to get receivers there,” said Trubisky.

“Saw a lot of post-high,” added Trubisky. “Usually backers sit in the middle safety in the middle of the field. So we like our outside matchups. We got really good receivers. We got really good talent across the board. We’d like to attack all areas of the field and get the ball to our playmakers so we could do a little bit better at everything.”

Those comments sound a lot like comments that Trubisky made earlier this offseason about his time with the Bears.

“I’m able to just trust my abilities and play a lot more free, not just go where the coach wants me to go with the football,” said Trubisky to MMQB’s Albert Breer during training camp. “I think it was a lot along the lines of just having a trust and being on the same page as the offensive coordinator. I felt like being in Buffalo, the quarterback had a lot more free rein to go where he wanted with the reads and go where he wanted with the ball, as opposed to Chicago.”

“Even if you got a completion [in Chicago], I felt like sometimes it wasn’t necessarily what the coach wanted,” added Trubisky. “They put you in a box a little bit more than you wanted to be, and I think that restricts you as a player. It’s just different experiences. In the end, we still won games. It’s just different team to team.”

This certainly isn’t encouraging if you’re a Steelers fan. The last thing Pittsburgh fans want to see is the starting quarterback questioning the offensive coordinator just two games into the season.

Maybe this is just a situation where Steelers offensive coordinator Matt Canada has to find what works with Trubisky. It’s certainly possible that’s the case.

But based on Trubisky’s history in Chicago, this likely isn’t a good sign. It probably wouldn’t be wise for Steelers fans to expect Trubisky to have better results in Pittsburgh than he did with the Bears.
