If the Pittsburgh Steelers bring offensive coordinator Matt Canada back in 2023, the fan base might take next season off.

Alright, that’s a bit extreme — die-hard fans will ride or die with the Steelers no matter what. But there will certainly be a lot of angry fans if Canada is back next season.

And comments from Canada this week won’t help his case any.

Canada was asked about getting wide receiver Dioante Johnson more involved in the offense.

And his response reeked of arrogance and a severe lack of self-awareness.

“So, getting Diontae more involved is important, but ultimately, winning’s important and scoring’s important,” said Canada. “And Kenny’s got to read it out as it is, and we’ll continue to work to get [Diontae] the ball. We understand how talented he is.”

I get the feeling that Canada feels like he’s always the smartest guy in the room.

The Steelers extended Johnson before the season for a reason — they wanted him to be a focal point of the offense.

But instead, Johnson is on pace to have fewer receptions and receiving yards than last season. He also hasn’t caught a touchdown this season after catching eight touchdowns last season.

All Canada had to say was say that Johnson is an important part of the offense and they want to get him the ball more. The comment about winning just came off as out of touch because the Steelers aren’t winning and they aren’t scoring points consistently this season.

And I’d wager that a big reason for that lack of success is because Johnson isn’t touching the ball enough.

Canada has been a disaster in Pittsburgh and his firing can’t come soon enough. The Steelers have weapons, Canada just has no clue how to use them.
