Jerod Mayo has a challenging task ahead of him.

Everybody knew that when the New England Patriots moved on from Bill Belichick, the next head coach had big shoes to fill. But Mayo has always been aware of this and isn't shying away from the challenge.

And with that, he is also making a bit of a splash, looking to keep two members of the coaching staff in New England despite their deep ties to Bill Belichick.

According to Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer, Steve and Brian Belichick have both been offered jobs with the team for the 2024 season.

Mayo and the elder son (Steve) have grown close as they’ve collaborated to run the Patriots' defense the past five years," Breer wrote.

Steve Belichick worked alongside Mayo as the linebackers coach, basically sharing the duties of defensive coordinator. Mayo was in charge of running the meetings, but it was Steve who called the plays during games.

As for Brian Belichick, he started with the team in 2016 as a scouting assistant, but was promoted to coaching assistant from 2017 to 2019. In 2020, Brian Belichick was moved to safeties coach.

So with this offer on the table, it will be interesting to see where Bill Belichick heads next and if his sons decide to follow.

But, they also could be looking to make a name for themselves, without their father leading the way.
