The New England Patriots roster is whole once again despite losing one receiver on Tuesday.
After placing Jalen Hurd on the reserve/retired list, the Patriots claimed receiver Thyrick Pitts off waivers from the Chicago Bears, the team announced.
Hurd was signed by the Patriots on July 25 and retired on August 1. The receiver has not had an easy time since entering the league in 2019.
He was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the third round (67th overall pick) in the 2019 NFL Draft. However he was placed on injured reserve during each of his three seasons with the 49ers and never appeared in a NFL game.
In his place, the Patriots claimed Pitts, who was cut by the Chicago Bears on Monday. The receiver out of Delaware went undrafted in the 2023 NFL Draft, recording 57 catches for 631 yards and 10 touchdowns in his final collegiate season.
Hurd was considered a long shot to make the active roster, but it will be interesting to see how Pitts looks against the other Patriots receivers.
