Jack Jones, Patriots training camp 2023

There was a little bit of drama at Gillette Stadium on Thursday, after Jack Jones was seen leaving training camp early.

This came after Jones got heated after breaking up a pass along the sideline intended for Kendrick Bourne. Soon after, he was seen walking to the stairs alongside Jabrill Peppers in what was assumed as an attempt to calm him down.

Jones later returned to the fields, but remained on the sidelines and had chats with Jalen Mills and Matt Groh. Yet, he never returned to team drills.

On Friday, two assistant coaches addressed the situation.

Linebackers coach Jerod Mayo was first asked about the situation, but deflected it onto two other coaches, one of whom works closely with Jones.

"Ask (Mike) Pellegrino or Coach (Bill Belichick)," Mayo said.

Pellegrino, the cornerbacks coach, was asked next and gave a little more detail about what occurred.

“It was a great play,” Pellegrino said on Friday morning. “We had a conversation. That conversation is personal, and we’re moving on to training camp (practice) 9 and watch him grow each day forward.”

“The conversations I have with my players are personal, especially in situations like that,” Pellegrino added. "You guys don’t know what happened, but I’m not going to share what we spoke about.”

Controversy has followed Jones throughout the offseason, with him being arrested at Boston Logan airport on June 16 for trying to bring two loaded firearms on the plane. Jones was arranged on June 30, with his attorney Rosemary Scapicchio stating that "he had no intention of brining any guns into Logan Airport that day."

While it was uncertain if he would be at training camp, Bill Belichick confirmed that he would be in attendance and has been there every day.

Jones is due back in court on August 18, which is just a day before New England's final preseason game against the Green Bay Packers.
