FOXBORO, Mass. — It was an exciting day at Gillette Stadium as the New England Patriots offense had their best practicing of training camp.
The three quarterbacks looked solid, with Mac Jones showing a careful eye in the red zone to locate two players in tight coverage.
The rookies also had a solid day, with Demario Douglas showing up for the 1-on-1 drills with a long catch over Marcus Jones followed by a strong route that left Shaun Wade behind.
Along with Douglas, Kayshon Boutte finally saw some action in both 1-on-1s and team drills. With a diving catch in one of the 11-on-11 periods, Boutte recorded his first completed catch from Jones during training camp.
Here’s what else I saw from Wednesday's training camp session:
– PLAY OF THE DAY: Mac Jones hit JuJu Smith-Schuster in the back of the end zone, with Smith-Schuster making an impressive effort to get two feet down for the touchdown. Very loud reaction from the crowd and included a little dance celebration from Jones.
– Honorable mentions:
Jones connected with DeVante Parker for an impressive catch over rookie cornerback Christian Gonzalez.
Bailey Zappe hit Tre Nixon on the sideline for a 35-yard pass, marking one of the longest from training camp so far.
– A lot of trash talking today, especially from the wide receivers
-Pass Breakups: Marte Mapu, Shaun Wade, Isaiah Bolden
Mapu nearly picked off a pass from Bailey Zappe, but instead had to take a PBU instead.
– Newly signed reciever Thyrick Pitts had a catch on his first day of training camp from McSorley. Pitts was signed on Tuesday after Jalen Hurd retired.
– Kevin Harris and Pierre Strong were getting even more reps with Rhamondre Stevenson not taking part in team drills
– P Bryce Baringer and K Chad Ryland were the first on the field Wednesday morning. Jones was third.
– Quarterback Stats
Mac Jones: 13-for-15
Bailey Zappe: 11-for-13
Trace McSorley: 6-for-8, INT
McSorley was intercepted by Bolden.

How Patriots’ JuJu Smith-Schuster is executing beautiful plans to keep a personal promise
JuJu Smith-Schuster will always remember the place that gave him his start.
