Tom Brady returned to Gillette Stadium on Sunday where he was honored at halftime of the New England Patriots' Week 1 opener versus the Philadelphia Eagles.
It was then that owner Robert Kraft announced that the team would waive its four-year waiting period and induct the seven-time Super Bowl champion quarterback into the Pats' Hall of Fame on June 12, 2024.
Of course, there's a reason that the Patriots chose "6-12."
Brady's jersey number is 12 and he has won six Super Bowls with the Patriots alone.
He had a chance to win three more in New England but fell short, including to the Eagles in 2018.
Brady had thrown for 505 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions in the loss, while the offensive line allowed a single sack. But it was that sack that would change the game.
Brandon Graham strip-sacked Brady when the Patriots trailed by five points with only 2:24 left to play. The Eagles would go on to win Super Bowl LII 41-33.
Despite Graham's game-winning play, Philly's backup-turned-starting quarterback that season, Nick Foles, won the game's MVP award after he became the first player to throw and catch a touchdown in a Super Bowl.
Foles completed 28 passes in 43 attempts for 373 yards with three touchdowns and one interception in the win.
Brady might have plenty of big victories to celebrate, but Super Bowl LII will never be one of them.
