Former Dallas Cowboys DE/OLB DeMarcus Ware is being inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in August of this year. In just his second year on the ballot, he'll receive the ultimate honor an NFL player can aspire to.
These days, Ware is focused on his preparation for what will be quite the career highlight but also a unique way to honor his late Denver Broncos teammate, Demaryius Thomas.
Ware opened up on his getting ready at a recent football camp for students from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Collin County, held by the Cowboys and Smoothie King.
"The ice has melted, and things are starting to heat up a little bit because we are getting closer to that speech time," Ware told reporters via Dallas Morning News' Calvin Watkins.
When Ware takes that stage in Canton, Ohio, less than two months from now, he'll do his best to reminisce on his time with the Cowboys and the Broncos. While most of his Hall of Fame-caliber accomplishments occurred in Dallas, his lone Super Bowl win came with the Broncos.
It's only fair both franchises get some love in his speech.
But Ware is naturally more worried about singing than he is about talking.
"What's even more challenging is singing that national anthem," the former Cowboy added. "Singing the national anthem is one of the hardest things. But it's going to be a memory of a lifetime."
Why is that?
"This is the time where we (Demaryuys Thomas) are going to be able to connect for one moment," said Ware. "That's why I'm singing the national anthem."
The Hall of Fame game will be played on August 3rd with Ware's enshrinement arriving days later on the 5th.
DeMarcus Ware is a Hall of Famer: Who’s next for the Cowboys
The Dallas Cowboys are no strangers to having players elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. And yet, when DeMarcus Ware got the knock to be a part of the inductee class for 2023 on Thursday, he became a first in franchise history. Ware is the first Cowboy ever to be in the Hall […]
