The Dallas Cowboys have brought back valuable defensive pieces in safety Donovan Wilson, linebacker Leighton Vander Esch, edge rusher Dante Fowler, and nose tackle Johnathan Hankins during the initial free agency period.
Dallas also brought in five-time Pro Bowl cornerback Stephon Gilmore via trade. Coupled with trading for wide receiver Brandin Cooks, the Cowboys can pretty much hit any area they want to at any point in April's NFL draft.
One area the Cowboys are looking to strengthen that's already a strength is rushing the passer. Oklahoma State defensive lineman Tyler Lacy is a player they are interested in, and he has a top-30 visit set up with them soon.
Lacy was a four-year starter for Oklahoma State and he was a steady performer. As a freshman in 2019, he missed three games due to injury. However, he started in the other 10 games and produced 20 tackles (two tackles for loss), a sack, and two pass breakups.
Lacy's sophomore campaign got him Honorable Mention All-Big 12 honors as he racked up 32 tackles (eight tackles for loss), four sacks, and a forced fumble. As a junior, Lacy was again an Honorable Mention All-Big 12 performer with 34 tackles (11.5 tackles for loss), 3.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, and a pass defended. Also, Lacy received first-team Academic All-Big 12 honors.
His senior season was another good one. Lacy received his third consecutive Honorable Mention All-Big 12 honor after tallying 27 tackles (8.5 tackles for loss), three sacks, a fumble recovery, and a pass breakup.
Not only was Lacy's production extremely solid, but he also did so by playing every position on the defensive line. In an interview with Justin Melo of The Draft Network earlier this week, Lacy mentioned that every team he's talked to has mentioned him playing all over the defensive line in the NFL. Specifically, he has been talked to about 3-technique, 4-technique, and 5-technique the most.
Dallas, as much as any team in the NFL, loves players with position flex. Micah Parsons, DeMarcus Lawrence, and Chauncey Golston can all rush from the interior or the edge, and Lacy could add another piece to that puzzle on the second or third day of the draft.
