Mavericks reportedly close to bringing in former Utah Jazz executive Dennis Lindsey
The Dallas Mavericks want to bring on Dennis Lindsey as a consultant, the first step in an offseason of change for the Mavericks.
The Dallas Mavericks are looking for front-office help, and on Monday Marc Stein reported that the name pegged is a familiar one around NBA circles.
The Mavs are reportedly close to bringing in longtime Utah Jazz executive Dennis Lindsey as a consultant to the Nico Harrison-led Mavericks front office, first reported by Stein.
Lindsey has over 25 years of NBA chops. He brings the experience in the NBA that Harrison has lacked since he was first hired by the Mavs in 2021.
Lindsey was hired by the Jazz as general manager in 2012 to replace Kevin O’Connor after stints as the assistant general manager of the San Antonio Spurs and Houston Rockets.
He built the Jazz into a playoff team led by head coach Quin Snyder, whom he hired in 2014.
But the pending hire also comes with a bit of history. In 2021, Lindsey was accused of racist remarks by former Jazz player Elijah Millsap. Millsap said during his 2015 exit interview with Lindsey that he said to Millsap, “If you say one more word, I’ll cut your black ass and send you back to Louisiana.”
The league investigated the allegations but could not confirm the remark was made.
“The investigation was unable to establish that the alleged statement was made,” the league said in a statement. “The investigation also involved other parties who might have been in a position to corroborate the allegation, and the review of the meeting notes of the exit interview and other pertinent information.”
This promises to be an interesting summer in Dallas.
