The Tennessee Vols baseball team traveled to Oxford on Friday for a huge showdown with the Ole Miss Rebels.
Tennessee's bats continued their hot streak as they scored a dozen runs in a 12-1 blowout win against the Rebels.
The Vols hit five home runs on Friday night, proving that their power surge isn't limited to Lindsey Nelson Stadium in Knoxville.
After the game, Ole Miss pitcher Dylan DeLucia admitted that the Rebels took the Vols lightly.
DeLucia also guaranteed an Ole Miss win on Saturday.
"We took them lightly," said DeLucia (via The Clarion Ledger). "It won’t happen again. We will win tomorrow. I’ll tell you that. It’s one of those things where they play in a small field. We have a bigger field, so we thought we could throw it in to them. It didn’t work out. We missed some spots and that’s why they ended up hitting the homers. Tomorrow will be a lot better."
I'm not sure how Ole Miss took one of the top teams in the nation lightly. The Rebels choosing to not believe in the Vols' success this season is the result of a poor coaching job by head coach Mike Bianco.
Bianco is a legendary coach at Ole Miss. But he definitely failed his team by allowing them to look over a really good Tennessee baseball team.
And all DeLucia did with his comments was give the Vols a little added motivation for the rest of the weekend series.
First pitch for Tennessee/Ole Miss is scheduled on Saturday night for 7:00 PM CT/8:00 PM ET.
