The parallels between the 2022 Tennessee Vols and the 2019 LSU Tigers are almost uncanny at this point (such as both teams scoring exactly 351 points through their first seven games of the season).
After Tennessee's 44-6 blowout win against the Kentucky Wildcats on Saturday, there's another strong parallel between the Vols and the Tigers.
In 2019, LSU had the No. 1 scoring offense in the nation at 48.4 points per game. And they had the No. 32 scoring defense at 21.9 points per game.
Through eight games this season, the Vols have the No. 1 scoring offense in the nation as they average 49.4 points per game. Defensively, Tennessee is giving up 21.0 points per game, which is the No. 26 scoring defense in the nation.

Tennessee is only halfway to the same glory that LSU achieved in 2019.
But still, the similarities are undeniable.
That 2019 LSU team was possibly the greatest college football team I've ever seen. They had a ridiculous amount of NFL talent and they dominated nearly every team they played.
We don't know yet how much talent the 2022 Vols have (though I think folks will be surprised how many players from this team get drafted). And we don't know if they'll be able to dominate in November, December, and January as LSU did. But so far, Tennessee is on pace with the 2019 Tigers.
No one thought Josh Heupel could turn this thing around this fast. And now that he has, it has fans wondering just how good things can get on Rocky Top.
