The Philadelphia Eagles were able to do a lot of good for themselves by finding a way to keep Darius Slay in town.

The path to getting there may have been unconventional, but Slay ended the 2022 season as an Eagle, and now he will start the 2023 season in the same jersey.

Nothing else matters.

The good news for the Eagles is that this signing frees them up in a wide variety of ways that help push the franchise in the right direction.

Not only does Philly get to keep one of the best players in the league at a value position, but now they go into the 2023 NFL Draft with far more freedom than they had a few days ago.

Without Slay, the Eagles had essentially no other choice than targeting a corner with the tenth-overall pick. The shoes are simply too large to fill by anyone other than an expensive free agent or a valuable draft pick.

Sure, the team already has a very promising CB1 in James Bradberry, but having a duo of high-level corners is always better than just having one.

If the Eagles can find a way to keep the safety position in good standing, they will go into the draft with no massive needs and a ton of freedom; leaving them in an easy position to take the best player on the board.

Most good general managers already do this anyway, but the need may have been too much to overcome with Slay out of the building.

At this point, trying to guess which direction the Eagles go in the draft is next to impossible, but that is a great thing for a team that is excellent at finding talent with its picks.

Trust in Howie Roseman. It has worked up until this point, and this unique opportunity is only going to add to that even more.
