The Tampa Bay Buccaneers officially wrapped minicamp on Thursday and now, they head into the official dead period before training camp begins.

So, that means it's time to put out an updated, way-too-early 53-man roster projection that takes into account all of the developments since the draft concluded in April.

Let's dive in. Note: Players with single asterisk (*) are 2023 draft picks and players with double asterisks (**) are 2023 undrafted free agents.

Quarterback (3)

IN: Baker Mayfield, Kyle Trask, John Wolford
OUT: N/A

The skinny: Even though this is a competition, it's Mayfield's job to lose. It's still early, but reports are Mayfield has looked better, so far. He even received the majority of reps during minicamp. Trask is going to have to light it up during camp if he wants a shot at winning the job and throwing pick-sixes to rookie linebackers isn't going to help. Wolford makes a lot of sense as QB3 and can step in if Mayfield gets hurt and Trask hasn't won over the coaching staff. They won't be pigeonholed with Trask, which is obviously a good thing.

Running back (4)

IN: Chase Edmonds, Ke'Shawn Vaughn, Sean Tucker**, Rachaad White
OUT: Ronnie Brown**, Patrick Laird

The skinny: Tucker made the team on our way-too-early roster prediction that came out after the draft. He's a perfect back for Dave Canales' offense, but a heart condition has kept him out of the offseason program. The undrafted rookie is expected to be ready for training camp, but his conditioning and impact are certainly up-in-the-air to the point where it's hard to see him making the 53, right now. Either way, I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt, for now.

Wide receiver (6)

IN: Mike Evans, Russell Gage, Chris Godwin, Rakim Jarrett**, David Moore, Trey Palmer*
OUT: Taye Barber**, Kaylon Geiger, Ryan Miller**, Deven Thompkins, Kade Warner**

The skinny: Man, this room looks pretty shaky since Gage's new injury cropped up – even with Evans and Godwin spearheading things. There is no depth behind those three. The key with Gage's injury is what the hell do the Bucs do at the slot if he's out for some time? Godwin can obviously play inside, but the Bucs want to get him on the outside, more, in 2023. I really don't think Moore has much left in the tank, but right now, the Bucs need another experienced guy on the roster in case Gage is compromised.

Tight end (3)

IN: Payne Durham*, Cade Otton, Ko Kieft
OUT: Dominique Dafney, Tanner Taula**, David Wells,

The skinny: This room looks a bit light, as well. So far, the tight ends really haven't been utilized in practice, which is a bit of a surprise considering Canales' proclivity for using them in the past. It won't surprise me if four guys end up making the roster since Durham is a rookie, but for now, this is the fit.

Offensive line (10)

IN: Silas Dzansi**, Luke Goedeke, Matt Feiler, Robert Hainsey, Ryan Jensen, Nick Leverett, Cody Mauch*, Justin Skule, Brandon Walton, Tristan Wirfs
OUT: Luke Haggard**, John Molchon, Chris Murray**, Michael Niese, Aaron Stinnie

The skinny: The offensive line really only has two positions without questions: center and left guard. We don't know who the starting right guard will be and we don't know how Wirfs and Goedeke are going to shake out at left and right tackle, respectively. There's plenty of solid competition for the right guard job, so it should be OK in the long run. But what about swing tackle? Skule is currently the top option and Dzansi is getting a crack at it too, but neither are proven players. Because of that, I think the Bucs keep Walton on the 53, even if he's moved to the inside. Having that inside/outside versatility gives the Bucs another emergency option at swing and an option on the inside if things were to get really bad. Stinnie, one of the holdovers from the Super Bowl run, doesn't make the cut because he only plays guard.

Defensive line (6)

IN: Kalijah Cancey*, Logan Hall, Greg Gaines, Pat O'Connor, Deadrin Senat, Vita Vea,
OUT: Willington Previlon, Mike Greene, C.J. Brewer

The skinny: Gaines is definitely going to play nose behind Vea this year, which is interesting. That means Hall and Cancey are in line for some playing time, while O'Connor and Senat fill in the gaps from time to time.

Inside linebacker (4)

IN: K.J. Britt, Lavonte David, SirVocea Dennis*, Devin White
OUT: Jeremy Banks**, Ulysees Gilbert, J.J. Russell

The skinny: The initial 53-man projection had Banks making the cut over Dennis, but the latter has flashed way too much since then to be left off. Don't count Banks out, though, he can still make an impact – especially when the pads come on. Britt's special teams prowess should keep him on the roster, at the end of the day, and the Bucs aren't going to carry five ILBs since they have plenty of questions elsewhere.

Outside linebacker/EDGE (5)

IN: Shaquil Barrett, YaYa Diaby*, Joe Tryon-Shoyinka, Anthony Nelson, Jose Ramirez*
OUT: Cam Gil, Charles Snowden, Markeese Watts**, Hamilcar Rashed, Brandon Randle-Bouye**

The skinny: This has been echoed so many times throughout the offseason, but it's because it's 100% true: it's not about when Barrett returns, it's about when he returns to form. Because of that, the Bucs should carry an extra EDGE to give them a viable four-man rotation til Barrett is good to go. Ramirez should beat out Watts and Snowden, even if the latter two have received some under-the-radar comments from Todd Bowles.

Cornerback (5)

IN: Carlton Davis III, Jamel Dean, Dee Delaney, Josh Hayes*, Zyon McCollum
OUT: Anthony Chesley, Don Gardner, Keenan Isaac**, Duron Lowe, Derrek Pitts**

The skinny: So far, Delaney is receiving the first-team reps at nickel, which isn't really a surprise. Hayes has reportedly been mixing in at nickel and outside corner, too. That leaves the Bucs with two potential nickel options and three outside options (before mixing in Delany and Hayes). Don't be surprised if they add another body, here, before training camp.

Safety (4)

IN: Ryan Neal, Antoine Winfield Jr., Chris Izien**, Kaevon Merriweather**
OUT: Nolan Turner, Kedrick Whitehead**

The skinny: Winfield Jr. and Neal are the obvious starters, here. Izien is cross-training at nickel, which will only help him make the roster and Merriweather is learning multiple positions, as well. Don't rule out Whitehead making the roster, but right now, that doesn't seem to be the case.

Special Teams (3)

IN: Jake Camarda (P), Chase McLaughlin (K), Zach Triner (LS)
OUT: Rodrigo Blakenship (K), Evan Deckers** (LS)

The skinny: The Bucs brought in Blakenship for competition, which is obviously good for McLaughlin. The team also brought in the former collegiate champion because it's not a good idea to have McLaughlin kicking every day. Blakenship beat out McLaughlin for the Indianapolis Colts' kicking job back in 2020, so it'll be interesting to see if he can make that happen, again, just three years later.

In all, there's still a lot to figure out and the conversations today could easily change in a few weeks. But for now, this is how things are shaking out and we'll see how they hold up once the pads come on in early August.
