Arizona Cardinals' headline strength heading into 2024 is a position that flashed greatness one season ago
The Arizona Cardinals’ strongest position group heading into the 2024 season was its weakest nearly one season ago.
As the NFL offseason slowly moves toward training camp, league-wide analysts are labeling each team's strongest position groups.
Bleacher Report's scouting department compiled a list of all 32 teams' differing strengths. For the Arizona Cardinals, the team's strength was a position riddled with injuries throughout the 2023 season.
Bleacher Report picked the offensive backfield, with returning players like Kyler Murray and running back James Conner, as the team's main cause for excitement heading into the 2024 season.
Here is what Bleacher Report had to say about the Cardinals' offensive backfield:
"Before the offseason, we ranked the Arizona Cardinals' offensive backfield as their biggest strength. While Arizona improved its defensive front significantly and added an elite wide receiver prospect in Marvin Harrison Jr., its group of quarterbacks and running backs is still the roster highlight.
"In fact, the group has gotten even stronger.
"Kyler Murray showed flashes of his Pro Bowl form after returning from a torn ACL last season. He's at least an above-average quarterback, and with playmakers like Harrison and Trey McBride around him, he could be much more this season."
The Cardinals' offensive backfield, when healthy, has a chance to play some of the most exciting football in the league.
Murray, when at his best, is a highlight machine. Arizona also added Trey Benson in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft. Conner is reliable. During the 2023 season, he amassed 1,205 scrimmage yards and nine touchdowns.
Then there is the presence of Emari Demercado, a change-of-pace runner who boasts impressive speed.
For insurance, the Cardinals added a serviceable backup in Desmond Ridder, a former starter with the Atlanta Falcons.
What stands out for Arizona is the number of options offensive coordinator Drew Petzing has at his disposal. The Cardinals' roster is far from perfect, but its offensive backfield does belong among the best in the NFL.
