It's official, the Baltimore Ravens have made their first pick of the 2024 NFL Draft.

With pick No. 30 of the first round, the Ravens selected Clemson CB Nate Wiggins. Wiggins is the first cornerback they have selected in the first round since Marlon Humphrey in 2017.

After taking Zay Flowers last season and hitting on a wide receiver in the first round, the Ravens go the opposite direction this time around. While Humphrey still has some good ball left in him, Wiggins gives the Ravens a young cornerback that can fit into the rotation right away.

According to Pro Football Focus, Wiggins gave up just 18 receptions on 41 targets last year for 176 yards. A player that will have a legit role from Day 1. Check out the evaluation from Rob Gregson below to find out what Wiggins brings.

Strengths

  • Plant & Drive Phase: Smooth transitions with quick feet to trigger and collapse on routes
  • Jump Ball: Plays above the rim much better than his frame would suggest. Can play through the catch point
  • Ball skills: Knows when time to his punch to force PBU’s and soft hands as a natural catcher
  • Anticipation: Understands route concepts and shows the ability to read a QBs eyes and break on the ball.

Areas of Improvement-Concerns

  • Size: Narrow frame and overall structure that may be maxed out at only 170-175 pounds and with 30’ arms
  • Play Speed: Can be caught lollygagging or left behind on vertical concepts which should never happen given his officially timed 4.2 speed
  • Run defense: Almost a pure cover guy between his frame and skill set …
