Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said on Monday that the team currently does not plan on bringing in a running back outside of the organization on the heels of the torn Achilles injury that J.K. Dobbins suffered in Week 1.
"No, I think we're good," Harbaugh said during a press conference on Monday. "I like the guys we have. Melvin [Gordon], he's here for a reason, and [we] certainly didn't expect it to be this quick, but that's why he's here. That's why he wanted to stay here because he likes it here. He likes the offense, and he likes the environment, and he's heck of a talented guy. You saw him in the preseason. He's a proven [running] back. So, I'm very, very glad that he's here."
Dobbins' 2023 season came to an end in the third quarter of the Ravens' home matchup against the Houston Texans. He exited the game after hauling in a 5-yard catch, and he wound up being ruled out for the remainder of the contest. Harbaugh confirmed during his post-game press conference that the fourth-year running back will miss the rest of the campaign due to a torn Achilles injury.
The Ravens now have two healthy running backs on their 53-man roster in Gus Edwards and Justice Hill. They combined for 54 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns against Houston.
Baltimore could also count on Melvin Gordon, who is reportedly set to be activated off the practice squad ahead of Week 2. Keaton Mitchell is also an option for Baltimore, but he is currently on the injured reserve list due to a shoulder injury.
The Ravens do have $4.879 million in cap space to work with if they opt to change course and sign a free agent running back.
