The injury list has continued to grow for the Baltimore Ravens at this early stage in the 2023 season. Now, there is a major concern regarding the status of safety Marcus Williams.
Williams is “feared” to have torn his pec during the Ravens’ Week 1 home matchup against the Houston Texans, as noted by the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. The veteran safety "has full movement and the pain is limited."
Ravens head coach John Harbaugh confirmed during his post-game press conference that Williams will undergo an MRI to determine the severity of his injury.
Williams left the Ravens’ home game against Houston during the early stages of the second quarter. He touched base with the team’s medical staff on the sideline before heading to the locker room.
The Ravens initially ruled Williams as questionable to return to the game due to a shoulder injury, but the all-around defensive back was later downgraded to out.
Injuries have marred Williams’ run with the Ravens. Williams, who signed off on a five-year, $70 million deal with Baltimore during last year’s free agency period, was sidelined for seven games in the 2022 campaign due to a dislocated wrist injury. He still managed to log 61 tackles and four interceptions in his debut season in Baltimore.
As mentioned, the injury woes have already hit the Ravens this season. Baltimore has already ruled out J.K. Dobbins for the remainder of the year after he tore his Achilles during the third quarter of its win over Houston. Ravens offensive linemen Ronnie Stanley (knee) and Tyler Linderbaum (ankle) each also suffered a nagging injury in Week 1.
