Bills Bengals Hamlin injury

One of the year's most anticipated games was put in the rearview mirror after Buffalo Bills defender Damar Hamlin suffered a severe injury in the first quarter against the Cincinnati Bengals.

After making a tackle on Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins, Hamlin quickly got up on his feet, before collapsing.

Monday night provided an unprecedented scene as Hamlin was given CPR on the field before being taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center by ambulance.

Per FOX19's Joe Danneman, Hamlin couldn't breathe on his own.

It took the NFL more than an hour to decide on whether or not the game should continue, but the final decision eventually resulted in the postponement of Monday night's matchup.

The NFL released the following statement regarding the situation:

"Tonight’s Buffalo Bills-Cincinnati Bengals game has been postponed after Buffalo Bills’ Damar Hamlin collapsed, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell announced.

Hamlin received immediate medical attention on the field by team and independent medical staff and local paramedics. He was then transported to a local hospital where he is in critical condition.

Our thoughts are with Damar and the Buffalo Bills. We will provide more information as it becomes available.

The NFL has been in constant communication with the NFL Players Association which is in agreement with postponing the game."

It remains unclear as to when the NFL plans on resuming the matchup at a later date or if it even plans a later date, at all.
