The Buffalo Bills selected a linebacker with the 91st overall pick in the third round of the NFL draft. Bills Mafia were quick to point out their frustration with the selection.
Brandon Beane and Sean McDermott needed to fill a hole on the roster left behind by Tremaine Edmunds. If there was any thought that Dorian Williams would be that replacement, Beane himself may have dispelled those rumors.
Within minutes of the trade, Brandon Beane made himself available to the media to discuss both O'Cyrus Torrence and Dorian Williams as they were taken in the second and third rounds, respectfully.
The Buffalo Bills' general manager quickly announced that Williams would be starting as an outside linebacker, not an inside linebacker. While Beane discussed that they could move Williams around throughout the year, he would in fact be starting outside.
Bills Mafia was divided before Beane made the announcement, the decision to start him outside caused a firestorm on social media.
Buffalo could be looking to deploy a different scheme next year, or this may mean the team is much higher on Tyrel Dodson than most would believe. Nevertheless, it appears the fan base is much more divided with the third-round selection than the previous two rounds.
If everything works out, Brandon Beane will look like a genius. If the decision to take a project in the third round with the primary focus being a special teams player, and the defense suffers, this could come back to bite him and the team.
The mantra at One Bills Drive since McDermott and Beane's arrival has been to "trust the process." After a few years of failing to meet expectations, the fanbase can become restless. Here's hoping Beane has some more magic up his sleeve and Williams winds up being a hit, not a miss, for the Bills' general manager.
