The 2023 NFL Draft has the potential to be one of the wildest drafts yet.
And CBS Sports thinks the Buffalo Bills could be involved in some of the craziness.
The national sports media outlet named the Bills as a "logical fit" for one of the NFL's top trade candidates.
There have been plenty of rumors this offseason that Minnesota Vikings running back Dalvin Cook could be traded.
Cook, who has reached four straight Pro Bowls, is a former second-round draft pick that's topped 1,100 rushing yards in each of his last four seasons.
Despite the high level of production in recent years, the Vikings would like to move on from Cook's salary cap hit.
And that's what most insiders expect to happen this offseason.
"Based on everything that we've seen, and what has gone unsaid, it's almost impossible to believe that Cook will remain on the roster at his current numbers," reported ESPN's Kevin Seifert earlier this offseason. "He'll either accept a significant pay cut, get traded or be released."
From CBS Sports: At full speed, Cook is still one of the NFL's best pure runners, fresh off a fourth straight 1,000-yard campaign. But he's going on 28 with a history of nagging injuries, has racked up 1,500 career touches and is due at least $14M in each of the next three years. Minnesota hasn't been shy about bidding fan favorites farewell to free up money this offseason. Cook's departure would save the Vikings almost $8M via trade, allowing Alexander Mattison to headline the next backfield rotation.
It's hard to see the Bills actually making a move for Cook — especially after adding Damien Harris to the roster earlier this offseason.
However, there is one aspect of Cook's contract that makes it at least a possibility that Buffalo could consider trading for the veteran running back.
According to Yahoo Sports, any team that trades for Cook could release him after the 2023 season and they wouldn't face a dead cap hit. That would be a massive benefit for the Bills and their salary cap situation if they decide they need Cook.
The former Florida State standout is a great player and he could bring a new dynamic to the Bills' offense, but ultimately, I'd be surprised if they seriously pursue a trade for Cook.
