The NFL can be a cruel league. For the Buffalo Bills, they got a dose of that in their playoff game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Buffalo played a solid game, especially on offense.
That being said, when it mattered most, their holes glared on the big stage. Bills general manager Brandon Beane has often mentioned a sentiment that he believes in regarding success in the league.
Beane thinks that your biggest issues are revealed in your playoff elimination game.
He's absolutely correct, too. Those issues were the reason that Buffalo did not move on, and they raise questions entering the offseason for the Bills.
Their lack of a downfield wide receiver proved costly when Allen failed to connect on multiple well-thrown deep balls to Stefon Diggs and Trent Sherfield.
Special teams inconsistencies have been an achilles heel in the past, and Tyler Bass' missed field goal in crunch time to tie the game proved costly once again. The punting game was not in their favor, either. Their botched fake punt attempt was a momentum swing in the Chiefs favor.
Defensive injuries killed the depth, especially in the Bills secondary. The cornerbacks simply got burnt downfield one too many times, and Isiah Pacheco had a field day at the second level of the defense on the ground.
All in all, Beane's thought process proved correct once again. Now, he needs to make adjustments during the offseason (via the NFL Draft and free agency) to help with these plaguing problems for the Bills.
